500			_aTradicionalmente se ha considerado a la Compañía de Jesús como una orden religiosa cuyas estructuras, proyectadas desde sus orígenes por su fundador, no experimentaron apenas variación a lo largo del tiempo. Si esto se ha podido observar en cuanto a su vivencia espiritual y al diseño de un proyecto religioso común, no parece apropiado afirmar lo mismo en cuanto a la relación que mantuvo la Compañía con los distintos príncipes y poderes políticos establecidos, ya que libró una dura batalla hasta adaptarse e insertarse en las diversas cortes europeas de la época moderna, incluida la papal. Esa adaptación se puede seguir con claridad durante el primer siglo de existencia de la Orden (1540-1640) y permite comprender los problemas a los que tuvo que hacer frente la Compañía durante ese tiempo, así como las vacilantes actuaciones de sus primeros miembros o los obstáculos ideológicos que le opusieron las instituciones de su entorno.
500			_aThe Society of Jesus has traditionally been considered a religious order whose structures, designed from its origins by its founder, underwent little change over time. If this has been observed in its spiritual experience and the design of a common religious project, it does not seem appropriate to affirm the same regarding the Society's relationship with the various princes and established political powers, since it fought a hard battle to adapt and integrate into the various European courts of the modern era, including the papal court. This adaptation can be clearly followed during the first century of the Order's existence (1540-1640) and allows us to understand the problems the Society had to face during that time, as well as the hesitant actions of its first members and the ideological obstacles that the institutions around it faced.
